BLS for Healthcare Providers

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation. For healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a credential(card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course. This would also include nursing students, EMT students and anyone that is interested in becoming a BLS Instructor.

This course meets the Dental Board of California’s requirements for 3 units of continuing education.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

ACLS builds on the foundation of lifesaving basic life support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication; systems of care; and recognition of and intervention in cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

The ACLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units — such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics — as well as others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatic assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus adminstration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

For pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.

ECG & Pharmacology

The adult ECG & Pharmacology Course addresses a key knowledge gap in electrocardiogram (ECG) and pharmacology, and focuses on specific ECG recognition skills and drug treatment knowledge.

The course is a pre-course option for ACLS or PALS students and other healthcare providers, or is also intended for ACLS or PALS students who complete the ACLS or PALS pre-course self-assessment and find they need to improve their knowledge.

The course provides training for:

  • Healthcare providers whose occupation or volunteer activities require airway management skills
  • Professionals in the field of resuscitation and airway management

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS®)

The PEARS course helps healthcare providers develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children. Targeted toward healthcare providers who infrequently see critically ill or injured infants and children, the goal of this course is to improve the quality of care provided, resulting in improved outcomes.

The PEARS course covers:

  • recognition of respiratory distress, shock, and cardiac arrest
  • appropriate lifesaving interventions to take within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider
  • resuscitation team concept

PEARS training is intended for any healthcare provider and others who might encounter pediatric emergency situations in the course of their work.

PEARS training is not intended for those with staff members who routinely provide pediatric care and are required to have PALS certification.
